Temperature can have a big influence on your tyre pressure. Because air expands when it’s hotter and contracts when it’s cooler, the pressure in your tyres can be affected by the road surface temperature and fluctuate. Nitrogen tyre filling reduces this variation, giving you a much more stable tyre pressure which can reduce your fuel consumption as well as keep your tyre inflated at the correct psi pressure.

High temperatures make tyres deteriorate quicker – which is why it is recommended to fill them, especially during the warm summer months, with nitrogen air, as it maintains constant pressure at high temperatures and keeps your tyres cooler.

Why do car tyres lose pressure?

As well as the continual expansion and compression of air in the tyre due to heat and cold, you can also lose tyre pressure through:

• Leaky, faulty or dirty valves
• A failure between the tyre and the rim
• Punctures

While nitrogen tyre filling will not stop a puncture or solve a faulty valve problem, it will provide you with a more stable pressure reading for a much longer period of time.
